Blanca Bean

Blanca has worked in health care for over 10 years, first within a hospital setting then to Reiki, yoga and finally discovering massage.  She completed her RMT certification in 2014 with honours from Everest College.   Since completing massage therapy school,  Blanca has been focusing on learning gentle modalities and techniques.  Her work is subtle, yet effective; deep but with minimal to no discomfort. She is the first in Canada to offer Neural Reset Therapy.  NRT releases muscle tissue using the nervous system.  It provides pain relief without pain and can be done over clothing, lying comfortably on your back.   She also specializes in Positional Release Therapy, Dermoneuromodulation, and Craniosacral Therapy. The philosophy that the body heals while at rest is core to her massage style. CONDITIONS TREATED stress anxiety depression limbic system impairment nervous system dysregulation PTSD and CPTSD overuse and repetitive strain injuries postural dysfunction strains sprains tendonitis chronic pain conditions, such as Fibromyalgia headaches, migraine headaches and tension headaches post concussion syndrome vertigo TMJ Thoraic Outlet Syndrome whiplash muscle tension MODALITIES Swedish Massage A variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage techniques vary from light to vigorous. Swedish massage uses five styles of strokes. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage was developed in the 1700's by a Swedish doctor named Per Henrik Ling. Neural Reset Therapy Muscles are controlled by the nervous system. Proper application of NRT resets the nervous system to release a muscle from excessive tension. With the reset, the knots, pain, and tightness are gone. Joint mobility and posture are improved. In your body, there are specialized nerve bundles called mechanoreceptors. The receptors respond to pressure, velocity, vibration, stretch, and other forces. When receptors detect a change, a signal is sent to the spinal cord and then relayed to the brain. With NRT, the therapist briefly stimulates the receptors embedded in the selected muscle by asking for a position to be held or for a movement in a particular direction. Or the therapist taps on a muscle in such a way as to cause receptors to send a special message to the spinal cord.  That new message goes through the spinal integrating centre which will reset the nervous system so the muscle is optimized neurologically.  With the reset, the muscular pain and tightness disappear within seconds. NRT is a pain-free technique and can be done seated, standing, or lying on your back.  Clothing can be worn during treatment. Positional Release Therapy A gentle and effective technique for relieving pain, spasm and loss of range of motion. PRT can produce powerful and lasting relief. Dermoneuromodulation dermo = skin neuro = nerve modulation = change A structured, interactive approach to manual therapy that considers the nervous system of the patient from skin cell to sense of self. Techniques are slow, light, kind, intelligent, responsive and effective. Positioning of limbs and trunk affects deeper nerve trunks (by shortening and widening their container), and is combined with skin stretch directed toward cutaneous fields of nerves that branch outward into skin (which may draw neural structure further through its container).  Structural Integration A type of bodywork that focuses on the connective tissue, or fascia, of the body. Fascia surrounds muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, organs, and nerves, binding some structures together while permitting others to slide smoothly over each other. Releasing the fascia can restore function and correct postural dysfunction. This technique can be incorporated into any massage session or it can be it's own treatment, done over 10 sessions.   Craniosacral Therapy This is a light-touch hands-on therapy that enhances the body's natural capacity for healing.  IT can be effective in treating a wide range of physiological issues associated with pain and loss of biomechanical, systemic and emotional function/wellbeing. CST is useful both as a primary treatment method and in combination with other traditional (physiotherapy) or complementary (massage) therapeutic techniques. Reiki This is a healing technique where the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being. Yoga Blanca graduated in 2012 as a Certified Hatha Yoga Instructor, she has additional training in Yin and Restorative practices.  She often incorporates yoga into her clients' home care plan.
